Garments

Garments refer to the article of clothing worn by people for functional as well as social reasons. Aside from the covering of our torso and limbs, clothing also includes headgear, gloves and shoes. Clothing protects the frail human body from the elements, so true enough, people in the colder part of the world wear thick and heat saving garments whilst people in the hotter part of the globe are scantily clad. No one knows the exact time when humans started wearing clothes but their reasons for getting dressed would be the same as our reasons today.

Early people may have worn drapes, rags or thick wool to shield them from the cold weather or the extreme heat. Aside from the nasty weather, clothing would also afford them protection from insects, noxious substance and abrasive materials. History has shown us that the early man was quite the inventor in making clothing appropriate for the practical problems that he faced everyday.
