Cosmetics

Also known as make-up in the field of fashion and beauty, cosmetics help enhance or improve the physical aspects of the human body. These cosmetics come in the form of bottled products such as lotions, or in containers such as powders or lipsticks. They are mostly used by women on a daily basis.

The use of these products can be traced back as early as 4000 BC, in Ancient Egypt, where the Roman and Greeks used mercury and lead to produce make-up, or beauty enhancement substances. However, there were certain periods in history where the use of make-up was frowned upon, such as during the reign of Queen Victoria in the 1800s. The monarch declared the use of these enhancements as vulgar and impolite, for during those times, only actors and prostitutes made use of them.
